Custom Ceramics and Windows - the Secret to the GAUDI EFFECT

The magical effect of ANTONI GAUDI-style ceramics has been captured beautifully in this small project-house in the north of England.  Notice that the roof-line is curved and moulded with a 'skin' on concrete over the sub frame.  The GAUDI EFFECT is not only due to the use of mosaic ceramic - it is primarily a harmonious symphony of curved lines and also the fact that the WINDOWS of all GAUDI inspired buildings are hand-made and use classical proportions...

Stained Glass windows such as these have to be hand-made - but there are new materials and techniques which can be used to give the same look to existing double-glazed units.  Very typically, Gaudi windows have wooden or metal surrounds - you can add 'overlays' of stained glass motifs on white PVC units - but the true sumptuous GAUDI EFFECT looks 'not quite right' unless the window surrounds are coloured to match the colourscape of the rest of the exterior walls...

 

In this highly detailed GAUDI CERAMIC PROJECT, we see that GLASS CERAMIC is used - simply because the glass ceramic modules have a transluscent character which 'shines' and reflects light from within each fragment's core...

Note in these examples that the GROUT and GLUE has been carefully mixed with pigments in pre-planned areas - making a beautiful symphony of colour...

This is a wonderful bathroom - note the mosaic fragments have been pre-cut according to a very specific design that was pre-drawn onto the substrate before fixing...

If you do not have the budget (or skill) to takle an entire wall, then we suggest you begin by making a CENTRE-PIECE - by choosing a narrow colour pallete to begin with (such as hues of brown, beige, white and gold) you should begin with a drawing - inexpensive PICO Video Projectors can be used to project the design onto the wall and then hand trace the design using coloured felt-tip pens - this will give you an accurate guide in which colours to choose when it comes to fixing the mosaic pieces.  A Dremmel style cutter is essential for this kind of work - and we recommend using very thin ceramic, or glass for your project - WEAR GLOVES!
